Dear Parents,
1.      Beginning this week your child is to take his/her dishes from the table to the sink after eating. This will help your child learn to be responsible. Also, in this way your child will learn that not only is he/she to clean up after him/herself at school but also at home.

2.       Please discuss with your child an activity he/she could complete daily as a chore to help around the house. Taking dishes to the sink is not included as a chore. After your child completes the chore then he/she will place a sticker on the incentive chart sent home in the folder. This chart is due back on September 19. At that time I will send a new chart home for the following 25 days. Included in the folder with the chart are stickers your child will use to place on the chart. Some ideas for chores are: making the bed (even if your child just pulls the blanket up over the pillow that works!) picking up toys, picking up his/her clothes and putting them in the laundry or hamper, helping with feeding pets, watering plants, setting the table for meals, etc.

3.      Your child will have a book report assignment weekly. This book report is to be written and illustrated on a book that has been read to him/her during the week. Your child is to print the title, the name of the illustrator, and draw a picture about the story.

4.      Please make sure that your child’s clothing and belongings are marked with his/her name.

5.      Wednesday, August 24th your child will be bringing home his/her sight words. These words are to be studied nightly by using the snap and clap method. Your child says the word, (at first with your help) and then says the letters either clapping or snapping. All vowels are snapped (a, e, i, o and u) and consonants are clapped. For example the word “and” would be a-snap, n-clap, d-clap. They say the letter as they are doing the motion. We will have practiced this in class on Monday and Tuesday so they will be aware of how to play snap and clap.

6.      If there are any questions or concerns you may have, please let me know. You may either see me directly when you drop off or pick up your child or you may leave me a note in your child’s homework folder that comes home every day.

Have a great week!
Thank you,
Mrs. Thorpe
